About four days before Lou Anne's birthday I took the kids aside and told them that moms birthday was coming up in a few days and that they need to think of ways that they would like to decorate for a party that wwe would
"Men are that they might have joy." This simple statement is easily forgotten as we trudge through life. It is so easy as humans to focus on the negative. Lately it seems that I have been surrounded by sad stories of trials and challenges that the world throws at us. So I thought I would record those things that bring me joy and focus on those. I think that I may find that most of those things that bring me joy will involve Lou Anne and the kids. It is going to be fun to find out.

This by no means was simple but the joy I got when Afton saw the horse I had made for her made it all worth it.
A few weeks before Christmas I wanted to make a rocking horse for Afton. I was not able to get it all done for christmas so we set a goal of having it done for her birthday. I still was not able to finish it so we celebrated her birthday with Brady and I was able to give it to her then. It still isn't finished but it is far along enough that she can ride it.
I have seen many times at funerals people bring items for displays of things that their dad made for them and they cherish them and are so proud to say that my dad made this for me. You see this a lot with the older generations. I think of the joy they must have making things just because for their kids.
I hope that Afton will be able to keep and enjoy this horse for years to come and pass it on to her kids and say grandpa built this.
Once I can get it stained and the hair and tail added I will post the finished version.
